Project overview
SkillsetGroup’s previous job board lived inside its applicant tracking system and felt separate from the main website. I designed the replacement in Figma and then built it as a WordPress plugin using the TempWorks API.
The primary audience was job seekers, with recruiters and internal staff also depending on the workflow. I collaborated with the CEO, my manager, and recruiters from discovery through launch.
The problem
Candidates encountered a disconnected experience when moving from the company website into job discovery and application workflows. The new solution needed to feel fully integrated with WordPress while TempWorks remained the system of record for jobs and candidate data.
It also needed to be responsive, maintainable, performant, secure, and deployable as a WordPress plugin.
My responsibility
I owned the work from discovery through delivery:
- Stakeholder interviews and requirements gathering
- Competitor and market research
- Information architecture and responsive interface design in Figma
- Feedback, iteration, and design refinement
- WordPress plugin development and TempWorks API integration
- Production delivery of every designed screen
I used selected Flowbite component primitives to accelerate production, then customized the visual language, responsive behavior, and workflows for SkillsetGroup.
Discovery and design process
Understand the workflow
Stakeholder conversations with leadership and recruiters established business requirements, candidate pain points, and TempWorks constraints.
Study the market
Competitor research identified familiar job-search patterns and opportunities to create a clearer, more cohesive branded experience.
Design and refine
I designed the responsive experience in Figma, collected informal feedback, and refined search, filtering, account, alert, and application states.
Product surface
The final product covered the complete candidate journey across desktop and mobile:
- Keyword and location search
- Desktop and mobile filtering
- Sorting and reusable job cards
- Job-detail pages and application entry points
- Saved jobs and job alerts
- Candidate sign-in and registration
- Resume handling and application submission
Responsive design decisions
The mobile experience was reorganized rather than simply scaled down. Dense desktop filters became focused mobile controls, job cards were restructured for scanning, and account and application forms were adapted for touch-friendly completion.
Account and application states
Candidate accounts, saved jobs, alerts, and application entry points were designed as part of the same end-to-end journey. Sign-in and registration states kept users within a consistent branded experience instead of sending them into a disconnected ATS interface.
Design-to-code decisions
I combined PHP, the WordPress REST API, Timber and Twig, Tailwind CSS, Flowbite, Alpine.js, and Webpack Encore. This provided a modern component-oriented frontend while preserving WordPress deployment and administration requirements.
Integration and delivery
The plugin connected job search, job details, candidate accounts, saved jobs, applications, resume handling, and ATS data. It also incorporated caching, REST endpoints, role-based capabilities, reCAPTCHA, SEO metadata, JobPosting schema, and Klaviyo follow-up automation through Action Scheduler.
Every designed screen was implemented and shipped.
Outcome
The project delivered a fully branded, responsive job-search and application experience within SkillsetGroup’s WordPress site. It replaced a disconnected ATS-led journey with a cohesive experience connected to the company’s existing systems.
